FROM OUR RECIPE BOX – Marzipan Valentine Hearts

Marzipan Hearts
A sweet treat for the ones you love could not be easier. Tint marzipan with pale pink or red food coloring then shape it into little hearts. (We used a silicone mold from Pastry Impressions but a heart- shaped cookie cutter will work just as well.) Use the hearts to garnish fine chocolates, a cupcake or other favorite desserts.

To obtain an opaque colored marzipan, add some white food coloring before tinting with red. Knead the marzipan thoroughly to evenly distribute the color. Use some frosting to attach the marzipan hearts to cookies or cupcakes. Heat the blade of a knife over a hot burner on your stove and use it to slightly melt a chocolate bon bon before affixing the heart.

Frequently Asked Questions ANSWERED
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We answer many email queries each month and thought we’d share the answers to those asked most frequently.
1) What is the shelf life of Love’n Bake products?
The shelf life of our products is 1 year for freshness unopened. Once opened, keep our products tightly covered under refrigeration. Use them within three months of opening. You may also freeze these products. Transfer them to a tightly sealed plastic container before freezing.
2) What is the difference between Almond Paste and Almond Schmear?
Almond Schmear is a Ready- To- Use filling that is best used before baking as a spread on a yeast dough, biscuit dough, rugelach dough, flaky dough or pie crust. It can also be swirled into brownie or cake batter before the brownie or cake is baked.
Almond Paste is an entirely different ingredient. Almond Paste is composed of 60% blanched almond that are ground and cooked with sugar. Almond paste is used as an ingredient in cookies such as Italian Macaroons, as an ingredient in rich, buttery almond cakes and to make fillings similar to the Almond “Schmear”
3) Can I use Marzipan in place of Almond Paste?
Almond Paste and Marzipan are closely related. While there is no standard of identity, there are some general guidelines. Almond Paste is made from 1 part or more almonds to 1 part sugar. Almond Paste is used as an ingredient in cakes, tarts and pastries. And it can be used to make marzipan. Our Almond Paste is made from 2 parts almonds to 1 part sugar.
Our Marzipan is made with 1 part or more almonds to 3 parts sugar (both granulated and liquid).The addition of liquid sugar makes the paste more pliable, suitable for molding into fanciful shapes. Marzipan can be tinted and rolled to cover cakes and pastries.
Unfortunately you cannot substitute marzipan for almond paste. Cake, cookie and most recipes are not designed with the additional liquid sugar and this could impair the results. (We have seen a few recipes that call for marzipan in the batter but perhaps the recipe writer made a mistake.)
